Kantara

This story takes us back to 1847, when a king and a local deity enter an agreement in which the former promises to pledge a part of his forest land to the locals, in exchange for peace and happiness granted by a shaman. Generations must honour this agreement and not claim the land. On to 1970, when the king’s successor asks the protagonist’s father to force the locals to give up the land- a request that gets denied. A number of events follow, like a human nature conflict. We meet Shiva, a rebel and the protagonist, defending nature and his village. Soon, war erupts between the evil forces and the villagers. Will Shiva be able to restore peace in the village?

This Telugu fantasy action film is the directorial debut of Mallidi Vassishta, who has also written the movie. NTR Arts has overseen production duties. The movie is a historical drama and it shows King Bimbisara of the Trigartala Empire from the 5th century BC suddenly lands in the modern-day world courtesy time travel. The movie was made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, with parts of the movie being shot in Hyderabad, at Ramakrishna studios. The music has been taken care of by MM Keeravani, who along with Chirratan Bhatt has composed the songs.
